ACTE GLOBAL CENTRE RESEARCH INITIATIVES
OUR RESEARCH PHILOSOPHY
Independent, Trusted, and Academically Sound
The ACTE Global Centre is committed to delivering research and education from an independent and unbiased perspective based on solid research principles and is the result of academic excellence. Our goal is to better our industry by putting actionable research-based information into the hands of our industry’s leaders and decision makers. Research excellence focused on corporate travel– more informed decision making – sustainable industry health.
CURRENT INITIATIVE
Focus: Corporate Travel and Climate Change
The ACTE Global Centre recently launched independent research projects, sponsored by IBM and Founding Partners, focused on Corporate Travel and Climate Change. The continuing need for face-to-face meetings in business along with the challenge of doing business in an increasingly globalised marketplace are in direct conflict with the drive to reduce carbon emissions to address global warming. With one eye on their brand reputation and another on the possibility of future regulation, businesses will increasingly have to factor in the calculus of carbon alongside other operating costs. However, current research and facts on the issue are quite clouded despite the many experts who discuss and study the area. It can be very difficult for businesses to discern the true effect of the policies, taxes, and best practices for the corporate traveler and the corporations themselves. Real numbers for corporate travel are tough to find; the numbers are often academically unsound and cover “travel” in general. Corporate travel has its own unique profile. New tools are needed to help businesses minimise their emissions profile along with better information regarding their mitigation options.
The University of Sheffield Initiative:
The ACTE Global Centre, in conjunction with the University of Sheffield, has undertaken a
project to provide insight into climate change issues facing corporations. The independent
research undertaken by Dr. Paul Armsworth, lecturer in Biodiversity and Conservatism at the
University of Sheffield, will explore the impact of and current initiatives developed within
the corporate travel industry, thereby exploring the economic efficiencies of carbon responsible
programmes.
This independent research initiative, while providing users with travel industry
specific data, will present recent developments and concrete information based upon
figures and case studies, which an organization can utilize and incorporate into
informed conservation investment decisions on a global basis.
Funding:
Funded by the founding contributors, IBM, TRX and the University Sheffield, the initial ACTE
Global Centre project will provide independent research, focused specifically on corporate
travel, on the current position, best practises and emerging trends of corporations’ response to
issues of climate change. The University of Sheffield, with its centre for excellence in aviation
research and climate change, has been selected to lead this initiative.

Participation:
Individual corporations are invited to participate in this project and benefit from the results. In order to build a benchmark database we invite you to contribute data to the warehouse. No client or individual traveler data is requested. No payment information is needed. Initiating participants will receive pre-industry release information. Participants may additionally elect to be recognized as one of the leading companies committed to addressing these vital issues. FUTURE INITIATIVES
In the coming months the ACTE Global Centre Board of Directors, with input from
ACTE members globally, will release further information about the other research
and education initiatives to be undertaken.
Clearly, the number of educational offering reflects the need for information about
our industry. The ACTE Global Centre looks forward to working with its constituents
and those centres of excellence around the world as we strive to provide the answers
to the challenges we face.
